History
Unlike the U.S., for the right to publish the hit parade of singles as a result of sales in the UK fought several music publications. The first hit parade published November 14, 1952 magazine New Musical Express, but soon followed his example and competitors, led to the publication of Melody Maker. In 1960, their tops began to print the weekly Record Retailer, converted in 1972 in Music Week.
The rivalry between the hit parade led to awkward situations where radio BBC Radio 1, is traditionally the first read out the hit parade for a new week and recognized the winner of two or three singles. In February 1969, BBC has reached an agreement with the Record Retailer that the «official» hit parade will be published in this edition, and to calculate the results of sales will now be involved in the independent auditor.
