FLAG

National Flag of the United States, also known as the Star-striped flag (eng. Stars and Stripes), is the official state symbol of the U.S. (along with the Great seal and anthem). It is a rectangular cloth with seven red and six white alternating horizontal stripes. In the canton of dark blue - 50 five-pointed star in white. 13 bands - 13 colonies, which formed an independent state (New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania). Blue rectangle on the left side symbolizes the Union. The number of stars in a blue field, corresponds to the number of states (currently 50). Red symbolizes hardiness and valor; dark blue - diligence, justice, vigilance, white - innocence and purity. Ratio 19:10. The flag has changed over time depending on the number of states, formed the Union. New Star added to flag 4 July, after joining the new union state.

These specifications are contained in an executive order, which, strictly speaking, governs only flags made for the U.S. federal government. In practice, however, virtually all the national flags of the United States comply with this specification, or close to it. 


Colors 
Flag of the United States is remarkable that the blue color it is much darker than the blue used in the flags of other nations. Officially, this shade of blue called Navy Blue (Naval Blue). This is understandable from a practical point of view: in the XVIII century. had not been persistent dyes and «normal» Blue would quickly fade to a pale blue, the flag of the same thick, dark blue long maintained their properties. For the same reason, the red on the American flag is also dark red in the flag of another country, although not to such an extent.
